#ChooseCartons: reduce, reuse and recycle!

Did you ever think that purchasing Cartons over Plastics can make a difference? Thanks to Choosing Cartons, I have learned a lot about the options available, like cartons! When I think of cartons, I think of those little milk pints you get in a hospital cafeteria. After spending some time reading and learning about cartons, I am excited to share with you a few of the benefits of choosing cartons.

Did you know:

Cartons reduce food and packaging waste with a great product-to-package ratio, an average of 94% product to only 6% package. So more of what you buy is product.

Cartons are recyclable for tens of millions of households where facilities exist.

Pulp and paperboard is manufactured into cartons using 50% or more biomass fuel, a renewable energy source.

Cartons block UV light preserving the nutritional value of foods like milk.

Cartons make transportation efficient because cartons take up less space in shipping to the processor and to grocery stores.

Cartons are recyclable for tens of millions of households where facilities exist.

Cartons protect some of the fresh foods and beverages we love most - milk, orange juice and other refrigerated grocery items.

I had to take a look for myself and see how I was doing with Choosing Cartons. This is what I found:
Not so hot. Not to mention that we need to go grocery shopping so bad! I can't say that we have ever really put a lot of thought into what our food comes in, I am too consumed with what is inside! Some of our foods only come in cartons, while others we will need to make a better effort to purchase cartons. Not only are cartons a lot less waste and can be made into something new after you recycle them, you can also do some awesome crafting at home! Check out this page for a few inspirational ideas.

  3. I'd say our family is half and half. We use quite a few items that use cartons, but the other half is plastic jugs or containers. Our city recycles all of them though which is nice.
