Take a look at those pretty eggs! Dyed with simple foods from our local grocer. I decided this year instead of purchasing the odd little tablets of fizzing color that contain who know how may toxins, we would try a new natural route. Honestly, as I left the grocery store, I was planning on my idea totally flopping and running back out to pick up a kit. We were all impressed with the wonderful colors the dyes created, and learned some cool things about natural dyes.
We started with the above ingredients, 36 hard boiled eggs, 16oz frozen blueberries, and a can of dices beets. We added one cup of water to each pot and boiled for about 10 mins. We then drained the liquid into bowls. We also used Turmeric to create yellow. We added boiling water to a few tablespoons of Turmeric powder.

We learned that the blueberries produce a vibrant purple instantly. However while drying, they oxidize and create a beautiful bright blue!
We tried mixing colors to make our own blends, this wasn't overly productive. We did get better results by dyeing in one color than the other to achieve orange and green. And it seems that Turmeric will dissolve the other color away- so we learned to use that first before dipping into another color.
and the cool part- dyes safe enough to enjoy the taste of yummy blueberry juice! {yes, that is blueberry on her forehead too!}

Cool! That's my plan for later this week.
